The Genetic Information Privacy Act, or GINA, was created in 2008. It protects people living in the US from discrimination from their employers and health insurance based on their genetics. Other types of insurance, like life or long-term care, are not covered by GINA. Many require that customers disclose any known genetic information about themselves before approving or upholding policies.
